Personal

My own personal opinions on things that don't really matter

No news is good news...

...is what they tell me.

I have been extremely busy (as always) but seriously more than usual. Was proof reading for a friend, starting my module, started going to the gym (am running even), and have booked a trip with friends to London mid-October. Good times!!

There are plenty of things I could rant about like why has Icelandair decided not to fly anymore on Fridays to Glasgow (that is after October), why is autumn here already (where have all the flowers gone), how come NO hot men come knocking on my door (well at least relatively handsome and problem free), and why do I still miss Edinburgh (watching Rebus last night did not help).

There are other things that have come to my mind recently but I'm so enjoying life that I can't even be bothered to complain and things only bother me for a second these days instead of residing in my head and making me feel resentful.

Oh, the joy.

Icelandair 'rock' - again!

I never imagined I'd be so thrilled about anything Icelandair does as I think they are extertionists that for decades had monopoly position when it came to flying to and from Iceland. However, in recent years other airlines (Iceland Express in particular) have started flying to similar destinations as Icelandair so prices have gone down.

Except - Icelandair is still the only one flying to Glasgow and unfortunately it's still impossible to get a return ticket under 200 pounds it seems. BUT the reason why I'm soooo happy is they've now introduced that they are FINALLY going to fly to and from Glasgow late in the afternoon on Sundays instead of the ungodly hours in the morning. Until the first of November travellers leaving from Glasgow Airport will still have to leave at 11am (means you leave at 7.45 from Iceland) so if wanting a long weekend the whole of Sunday is completely lost.

Now (ta da) they will leave Iceland at 5.30pm and Glasgow at 8.35pm. This means my intended Scotland autumn trip will definately be set so I don't leave Glasgow until after the 1st of Nov.

Also for all of my friends in Scotland who intend to come visit your loooong weekend will be longer as well :) so all you need to do is book the flights (accommodation is on me)!

ps.
The again! bit in the title refers to them finally allowing people to buy "cheap" one-way ticekts to/from their destinations.

Nothing better to do eh!

Friday, Fire, Twins and My Son

Yes it's yet another Friday but this time it will be followed by a three day weekend since Monday is a Commerce Holiday in Iceland. I have no plans for the weekend other than to just take it easy and maybe go swimming with my son and meet up with a couple of friends (Elfur for instance who just moved back from Oslo, Norway). I can never be bothered to go anywhere (forecast for the weekend is miserable anyway (dreich as the Scots would say)).

I just spoke to a friend online who told me there was a fire on Princes Street today - see BBC and EveningNews. Always the old houses that catch fire, reminds me of the fire downtown Reykjavik just this spring see MBL mind you it's in Icelandic :)

My dear friend Helga Rós and her partner Jónas had twins on the 2nd of August. When I heard she was pregnant with them I declared immediately that I believed them to be boy and a girl (saw an image of her with pink and blue for some reason) but the whole pregnancy she never revealed anything about the genders. Now they are born and one of them is indeed a boy and the other one a girl :) Both big, strong and healthy. Can't wait to go see them.

Óðinn has been coming into work with me the whole week. I hate to admit that he's spending most of his time playing an online Star Wars game but he's also very helpful - in the morning when we come into the office he opens the doors and turns on the lights and the women working on my floor have been coming in to see him and talk to him and one just came in earlier saying how beautifully he sings because although he's on the computer he's singing the whole time and making up songs about the game.

Burning Down the Car...

Yes. My mother's car burnt to the ground - so to speak - last night. Wish I'd seen it. Too bad the insurance will not cover it but thank Mary it wasn't a new and expensive car. Well maybe if it had been it wouldn't have cought fire :)

this is NOT my mother's car - just an image I found to illustrate my entry.

Finally...

Icelandair has moved into the 21st Century and now offers flights only one way for competitive prices.

Flutt

Ég er flutt yfir götuna.

I have now moved across the street. Hope to be connected soon to my broadband server but at least the phone is working already. Óðinn and I agree that we really really like the new flat so do the few who have already been to see it. Feels like home.

Weird life

I always find it so weird when people pretend they never said things they said or promised. Anyway I'm in a bit of a pickle about my upcoming vacation in Scotland although I have options and a few days sorted and I'm hopeful that it will all go the way it's supposed to.

Good news is I got a phone call today from the National Lottery (I have a subscription) and I just won a free year to World Class which is the most popular fitness centre in Iceland. Probably worth about 400 pounds (50.000 ISK) and money I would never have spent myself but going to the gym will do me good.

Anyway a week until I move and four weeks until I go to Edinburgh and for the next three weeks I'm alone at the office doing everything so not the most relaxing times coming up. But hopefully these four weeks will be followed up by a nice time in Ed. I'm sure it will be a nice time.

Vancouver 2003

Over 4 years ago we went to visit Vancouver. It was great! Just remembered I saved a few of the images in an album online and thought I'd take a look. Found this one - great view eh!

Back from Copenhagen

Copenhagen was lovely, conference was great and it was actually summer there. What is going on in Iceland with the weather is beyond my comprehension. But I've got summer in my heart and a smile on my face and life is good.
